I have seen many a car enter the shop with a plug or two that had the end blown off of it. These cars had AC, Champion, or Splitfire plugs in them. I have never seen this happen to a Bosch plug (even with a detonation problem) We double checked these plugs and they were the correct plug the plug manufacturer recommended. When you work on the same cars everyday, you get really familiar with the level of power a car has. I have noticed that Bosch Platinums or NGK Platinums do increase power to some degree. The big difference they make is driveablity. The cars accelerate smoother. BUT, not every car can use them... for example: 83-86 Volvos will ping like crazy with platinums. Anyway, that's my input on the subject. With a much more limited selection of plugs available for rotary applications, I have seen this happen with most of the cheaper alternatives to the stock NGK's. Autolite's rotary plugs in particular have a nasty habit of losing the center electrode into the engine, trashing an apex seal and then that entire rotor housing. I've never heard of it happening with the NGK's though, and because I've been happy with the quality of those plugs in my RX-7, I use them in my other cars as well whenever possible. I need to write the code to take the variables and display them on the screen I wus hoping someone else would do daat but id doesn't look like it. For me it is largely a tool to interrogate the various ecms and pcms I play with. With a bit of a rewrite it would work similiar to diacom. Mind you it is only designed to work with 8192 or 9600 baud ecms The interface which is in tango format works good. Make sure your using gcar2 as this allows data transfers to file. cya:peter At 02:51 PM 6/15/97 -0500, you wrote: >It's been a couple of weeks: >What's going on with Peter Paul Fenske's program/interface lately. I gotta few questions. First I'm dealing with a GM P4 in an 88' s-10 blazer. I've been trying now for the last few days to figure out what the speed and contents of the serial stream is/are coming from the truck's computer. I need to know what baud rate, and the general structure of this stream is, anyone know? I don't have access to an o-scope, just an old analog multimeter and my 386 laptop. I can receive data from the truck to my laptop, but the program I wrote has to initialize the serial port for a certain speed. It seems that if I run the port at 600bps, I can get some repeatable numbers. heck, I don't even know if I'm going at this correctly at alll!!!! help~! anyone? - -Matt Teagarden - - (-/---------------------\ | / | | | |\ | / |_________| |_______| \__|________ | ____ ____ | | / \ Chevrolet / \ | [|___/ OO \________________/ 00 \___|] 0000 0000 00 00 Matt Teagarden Blazer40@xxx.net Pittsburgh, PA Http://www.cobweb.net/~blazer40 1985 406V8 S-Blazer ------------------------------ From: snyek@xxx. There is softwaree, a C language listing and a interface schematic Which ecm are you using. the 165 or the 730. The stuff I posted pertains to the 730. The 165 P4 is a bit of a bear because it wants to use 160 baud. You have to send a 80 57 01 header to get it to send at 8192 baud but only when it has ended a 160 baud frame. Anyways good luck:peter At 07:43 PM 6/15/97 -0400, you wrote: >Hey all!! I just subscribed today, so Hello all! > >I gotta few questions. First I'm dealing with a GM P4 in an 88' s-10 >blazer. Supercharger kit for the V8 fitted at the *factory* by *Holden*? News to me! (Even though they put 215kw HSV drivetrain in the GTS-R on the standard commodore production line). If they did do it, get ready for the "sticker shock" of an overpriced for what you get car (as for all HSVs)!
