It's just the same thing, but with an "un" in front of it. On top of that, I even put a step by step on the web site. And then if that weren't enough, I have a link to send mail to the list owner (me) on the web page. As has been said before I don't think the GM factory will fit a APS charger on the assembly line, and it's not a 305 (Chev), it's a 304 or 308 (Can't remember when they switched) Holden V8. As for 307kW, I reckon this is underrated, I saw one of those APS charged cars at our local street drag meets and it was running low 12.3 from memory, in a car that must weigh at least 3600lbs. Must take more power than that. Either way it's till a $65,000+ investment. It's now time to redo the engine in my '76 Blazer. Its has a 400 Chev-SB and I'm looking to inject it this time around for better off road performance. I also want to significantly increase the low end torque and am looking for suggestions. I live in Arizona and am concerned about turbo charging. The Whipple route sounds interessting but how would that work with EFI? If turbo chrarging how does one optimize for low end? Is a big block the way to go? Thanks, me. Ok, Holden = General Motors Holden (Yes it's part of the US GM) Commodore = largish family sedan. Normally fitted with buick 3.8 V6, but in a RWD format (and a TH700). Also fitted with an australian made 5.0 V8 engine unrelated to any US engine. HSV = Holden Special Vehicles. Arm's length company of Holden, modifies cars. Generally overpriced, but retain their value. Drivetrains are fitted on normal production line, then go to another location where the interior/bodykits/wheels/brakes are added. HRT = HSV's racing division. GTS-R = The "fastest" HSV commodore. Fitted with a stroked 5.7 liter ("350") engine making 215 kw (=300hp), 6 speed corvette style gearbox. Unfortunately this car is painted in the same colour as taxis. At nearly twice the price of the 168kW Holden commodore SS, you really have to wonder... (A subaru WRX is about as fast :-) There are about 5 or 6 companys offering superchargers for the holden V8 (including whipple, paxton etc) as well as a few locally made ones. Diy_efi content: The commodore uses an interesting mix of GM C5 computer, VDO instrumentation and Bosch cruise control/ABS. This also extend to the interesting mix of weatherpack and standard automotive connectors in the engine bay :-( Cheers, Craig. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/6260 Mazda and other rotary powered cars. ------------------------------ From: john_carroll Date: Mon, 16 Jun 97 16:53:34 PDT Subject: RE: FW: Re[4]: Hydrualic pressure to HP formula The assembly you are writing about is listed at $300 in the catalog I have at the office. There is one crazy guy out in the Victorian bush who builds a nat aspirated stroked 5.7 liter engine that goes into the "Family Car" (ADR Approved) that produces approx 360Kw and 580 nm of torque . Its not painted the same colour as the "Taxi" and tends to go a little better so I hear (from the local rags). 400mtr in 13.5 seconds - I think the car weighs around 1800kgs. Top speed 278Kmph (tested) Some useless trivia. Anybody have suggestions on how to beaf up my trans without > major modifications? Hey Dan! There are plenty of "shift kits" available for the Ford & GM transmissions... and while they don't exactly strengthen the gears, they do make the vehicle shift "quicker", which reduces the catch time on the little dog clutches in the auto transmission, so they last longer. Trans kits are not that hard to install... takes a few hours, but its just because the parts are small and its a little tedious... doesn't require $500 tools or anything :) Frederic Breitwieser Homebrew Automotive Mailing List Website: http://members.aol.com/fjb203/index.htm Email: frederic.breitwieser@xxx.com Bridgeport, Connecticut ------------------------------ From: Frederic Breitwieser Date: Mon, 16 Jun 1997 21:29:04 -0400 Subject: RE: Re[2]: Hydrualic pressure to HP formula > Company called "Surplus Center" had a complete small axle assembly > with two motors and a pump built into it. I called the 800 directory service and didn't have enough information to get a listing... reason because my "homebrew" vehicle is slated for ride height/ride stiffness control via hydralics, and I need four cylinders (hopefully shock-like in mounting) to accomplish this.
