Has anyone seen, or possess, the following book: Automotive Electronics Data Reference and Troubleshooting, by Jim Scrudato and John Brakely? This book supposedly has every wiring diagram for any vehicle using jetronic ECU's, plus others. One can buy the book from Baum tools for ~$300.00 (no, I did not slip a decimal). Is this book any good? - - Bruce - -- - ----------------------------------------------------- <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> - ----------------------------------------------------- Bruce A. Any suggestions for required reading to help get me up to speed? I understand Motec and Electromotives systems overall, but not the innerworkings of the "black boxes" "maps" etc. Thanks, John Reed ------------------------------ From: collet Date: Mon, 04 Aug 1997 22:04:36 +0200 Subject: Re: Book? The supercarb.zip download is well worth the time, even if only for a chuckle. (Donations!! Really!) Here are some of my favorite excerpts from the "Gasoline Crisis Answer": "We believe these answers are found in the inventive resourcefulness of the Americium people." "Then we show evidence that gas cars have been invented. These vechiles don't even require gasoline as a fuel !" "This is not designed to be a book of make-believe." Thermal Catalytic Cracking may have some valid applications . . . but the more I read, the more I laugh. These folks can't be for real. ------------------------------ From: Simon Quested Date: Tue, 05 Aug 1997 08:37:13 +1200 Subject: Thanks Hi All Thanks to whoever posted the info about the book Maximum Boost by Corky Bell it's the best turbo book I have seen. Hi All Can anyone help me out, I need to find some turbo compressor maps... I have looked on the web...I couldn't even find a turbo mailing list. Compressor maps are as hard as rocking horse shit to find :-( I'm building a twin turbo these are the specs I have come up with Small turbo boost = 10 psi revs when pr is reached = 1500rpm pr = 1.68 airflow when pr is reached = 75cfm max airflow needed = 140cfm or more Big turbo boost = 10 psi revs when pr is reached = 2500rpm pr = 1.68 airflow when pr is reached = 125cfm max airflow needed = 340cfm I'm thinking that an IHI RHB32 may do for the small one and a Garret T3 for the big one. I've been thinking about working up a turbo kit for my rx-7, and that book is the first step. I'm glad to hear that you like it- I'll put it on order down at the bookstore. I'm curious where you plan to source your turbos- If you are going with brand new units, you might want to look into an Aerodyne Aerocharger. I'm probably telling you about something that you are already aware of, but Corky is using these variable vane turbos in his Miata kits sold through Bell Engineering Group, Inc. (If you do a search on BEGI, it should pop up pretty readily). Anyway, with the Aerocharger, he is getting good low end response, as well as decent top end. The example torque curves he has posted are amazingly flat for a single turbo. Anyway, just a thought. Here in the middle of farmville, USA, I guess you can find old turbos off of turbo diesels pretty readily. Don't think they'll be anywhere close to right for my car, but the idea is tantalizing.
