The 85 TPI had all the intake bolt holes at the same angle, and will fit on any 85 and older heads. 86 is usually the break year. To answer your question, the GM sensors were wired to key on power, and you need to make sure that the exhaust system is grounded to the block if there isn't an exclusive heater ground.
