I think carbs are appropriate when a fresh, untested, non-stock powertrain is being installed in a vehicle that will be converted to EFI. Getting the engine broken in and running well on a carb then switching to EFI later reduces the headaches involved in tuning the new engine. Guys with more computer tuning experience may disagree. As I get more ECM tuning experience I may eventually end up skipping the carb step. Right now I work with the carb first. The "box" might look remarkably like a GM ignition module if there's a 12V power source, ground, and the pickup coil output voltage is around 5V. I forget what size engine/car you've got. There are adapters available to bolt the throttle body to a carburetor manifold. You should pick a donor engine with similar hp and displacement to yours. GM TBI injector flow rates and some throttle body cfm ratings are in the archives. Bruce P posted the injector rates, I posted the CFM ratings, and I think someone else added to my post.
