This list has only been in digest mode for a short time. It worked quite well before that, and I would like to see it as a regular mailing list again. As far as your crossfire goes, there's a few of us who've done some crossfire work. To remove a bunch of the "arduous" from your crossfire, use a 1227747 ecm from a pickup. It's a real straightforward swap. I've got mine in a 57 Chevy pickup on a 302, there's a couple other guys here that are running or working of crossfire also. Be sure and read the tuning tips, they were written by a guy getting 13's in a Camaro with crossfire. No problem with software, but news is FAR less reliable...as in, our 100% unfiltered usenet news feed is missing at least half the posts. It's also very common to get replies before you get the original message (due to the distribution method). Digest mode sux too, but that'll be optional once we move. - -greg ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Nov 1999 08:22:28 -0800 From: "Clay Buccellato (Anthony)" Subject: Re: DIS > Date: Sat, 20 Nov 1999 09:42:57 PST > From: "scott christensen" > Subject: DIS > I am doing research to roll-my-own DIS for a 4 cylinder aircraft engine. Is there a similar > unit that can control two different coils simultaneously for a four > cylinder engine, ala "waste-fire" style? You can use two of them. Jacobs and MSD both make a 4-channel CDI unit for waste-sparking an 8 cylinder. I think MSD and Crane make a 2-channel unit for firing a four cylinder. One downside to MSD, is their 6A series coil drivers are current limited, and incapable of driving really hot, low impedance coils. If you're assembling an ignition, you might as well get your money's worth, so I'd recommend Jacobs or Crane. > 2) I found this waste-fire coil picture here on efi332: > ftp://efi332.eng.ohio-state.edu/incoming/coil.jpg > Anybody know what this coil is from? Specs? Kinda looks like a factory coil. Jacobs makes a waste spark coil called the MUCHO-I, that specs out alot better than the factory waste spark units. > 3) Anybody out there roll-their-own CDI coil driver circuitry? (or > use the "capacitive discharge driver" circuit from Zublin's > MSD-6A article) Why re-invent the wheel? They're not that expensive, and I'm sure your time is worth something. I can understand it, if nobody makes what you need. But, in the ignition arena, we are better supported. - -Clay ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Nov 1999 10:35:36 -0800 (PST) From: Orin Eman Subject: Re: rec.efi.diy > No problem with software, but news is FAR less reliable...as in, our 100% > unfiltered usenet news feed is missing at least half the posts. However, it might be good to gateway the list to a newsgroup as is done with the telecom digest which also appears on comp.dcom.telecom. Although this kit was developed specifically for the Toyota 3.4 engine many people still complain of drivability problems including high RPM leanness. The 6psi kit originally came with a rising rate regulator, which has since deleted, and the application list changed to include only 97 and newer trucks. I have a 96. As a result, I have been trying educating myself on the vehicle's fuel system to determine if it can handle the supercharger. My studies have lead me to the following questions which I hope the EFI experts on this list could answer. 1) Based on the equations I have seen on this list, the stock 250cc/min injectors should be able to flow enough fuel to handle 6psi boost at 5500 RPM. This assumes a fuel rail pressure of 60-65psi. Is this correct? 2) Is there a way to determine when airflow will exceed the MAF and ECU's ability to maintain the proper A/F mixture at stock fuel pressure? I would like to have some idea when (RPM @xxx. 3) Is there a simple way to increase fuel pressure based on boost pressure and engine rpm? I would like to avoid running overly rich, due to increasing fuel pressure based strictly on boost, while still within the MAF control range. I guess if I'm really lucky, one of the list's readers will have installed and "dialed in" one of these TRD superchargers.
