I would try and contact Motec. I would think that they would be fairly helpful in providing the gear your friend needs > > Is this work pursuing, or just switch over to a GM ECM?. > Is there anyone around here that has used both, and knows the strong points > of both?. Gotta remember that a Motec is aftermarket and is designed to be tuned in the car over a serial port or something. The GM is for the mass market. Also there is the question of sensors too. Most Nissans use a optical pickup (normal referred to as a crank angle sensor eventhoug it drives off the cam shaft usually. > > Any one on the list cracked a Nissan ECM?. Cracked yes - as in opened, pulled PROM, dissassembled code, found some tables made code so it could be easily reassembled, added a serial port to spit out ALDL style info - And that's about where I am at the moment. I think my serial port might be offending other parts of the ECM though. This is on an RB30ET engine. a 300ZX would have either a VG30DE, VG30DET or a VG30DETT. This programmer dates to 1984 I believe, well before there was software on PCs for programming devices. It has a serial port, and there is a program called promlink on the internet that will download to it from a PC, but that's it. It's set up to program logic devices right now, which would require some additional software to compile your design, then promlink to download it. I don't have any of the software, or manuals. Also I want to make clear that you'd have to buy a PromPak or UniPak adapter for about $100 before you could program EPROMS with it. If you buy the adapter then I believe it's a simple matter of downloading a PROM image, pressing some buttons, and off you go. After learning this I decided to punt and put money towards a newer programmer. If you are familiar with these things then this is probably a good deal, but I want to make sure that whoever buys it knows what they are in for! - --steve > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-gmecm@xxx.org]On Behalf > Of steve ravet > Sent: Friday, February 18, 2000 9:08 PM > To: gmecm@xxx.org; diy_efi; efi_332 > Subject: Data I/O 29B device programmer for sale > > Here's your chance to own a real antique.
