Years ago when I wanted colors with no hardness
heated the parts in a salt bath (1750 degrees)
and then quenched in a water bath with lots of
air bubbles and various chemicals added (don't
ask it took many experiments to get the desired
color patters and my notes are long gone) Several
books have formulas for the desired colors. I
seem to remember that silver salts produces
greens, sodium salts oranges, potassium salts
blues and so on.  Experiment Good luck have fun.
Its nice if you don't have to make a living at
it.
