Re: S & W Model 19 question Posted by: "braxton1@aol.com" braxton1@aol.com brucebraxton Tue Dec 1, 2009 10:10 am (PST) Just in case the Original Poster can't get the cylinder open, which is the usual result of this problem, I'll post the fix: If the ejector rod has unscrewed to a point where the cylinder can't be opened, KEEP YOUR SCREWDRIVERS, PRYBARS, PICKS, etc. in the damned toolbox. You'll just bend something. Pull the hammer back just far enough that the cylinder bolt (the little part in the bottom of the frame that keeps the cylinder indexed to the right position for firing) retracts. Once it retracts, insert a small piece of business card stock over it to keep it down. With the bolt depressed, rotate the cylinder OPPOSITE of its normal rotation. This will cause the ejector to start screwing itself back in. A couple of turns later, the cylinder latch will work and allow the cylinder to be opened. After a full disassembly job on the ejector rod, you can degrease the threads for the ejector rod and put a small bit of Loc-Tite on 'em before torquing. Should solve the problem long-term.
