Instructions
This document will provide you with the steps necessary to upgrade
aprevious version of the OrangePCi application and the driver files
for Windows9x.
PART I: PRINT THIS DOCUMENT
IMMEDIATELY
If your PC environment is currently setup for Ethernet networking,
itis recommended that you remove all items in the Windows Network
ControlPanel before proceeding with this installation. You should
also remove thefollowing lines from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
- C:\WINDOWS\LSL.COM
- C:\WINDOWS\OPCETHER.COM
- C:\WINDOWS\ODIHLP.EXE
You can edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file by going to the Run command in
theWindows 9x Start menu and typing the word sysedit, then click OK.
This willbring up the Windows 9x System Configuration Editor, which
is a simple texteditor that opens most all of Windows 9x's
configuration files.
OrangePCi Version 3.4 application Upgrade (Macintosh Side)
The first part of the upgrade is to update the OrangePCi
applicationon the Macintosh and copy a new Disk Images folder to your
hard drive. Thefollowing steps will take you through this
process:
- Open the OrangePCi Folder located on your Macintosh's hard
drive and drag the existing OrangePCi application and Disk Images
folder to the Trash. DO NOT drag the OrangePC Drive C file to the
trash. Doing so will cause you to lose all the data contained in
your PC environment, including the Windows operating system.
- Drag the OrangePC Preferences file located in your Macintosh's
System / Preferences folder to the Trash and empty the Trash.
- Run the OrangePCi Web Installer.
Windows 9x Driver Upgrade (Windows 9x Side)
The second part of the upgrade is to update the custom Orange
Micro Windowsdrivers. The following items will be updated or added to
your Windows operatingsystem:
- Launch the OrangePC by dragging and dropping the OrangePC
Drive C file onto the OrangePCi 3.4 application. This will create
a new preference file and configure the OrangePC Setup to use your
existing OrangePC Drive C file. If you are using Shared Volumes or
are connected to an Ethernet network, you will need to reconfigure
the OrangePC Setup before Shared Volumes or the network will made
available to Windows.
- You will be placed in the OrangePC Setup dialog. Next to the
"Hard Disk Drive D" menu item, choose the "Select Emulated Drive".
An Open file dialag will appear select the file"Win 9x 3.4
Update". Click the Cold Boot button to continue.
- After Windows boots, insert the Microsoft Windows 9x
Installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
- From the Windows Start button, select Run, type d:setup in the
field provided, and click OK.
- A "Welcome" Windows dialog will appear. Read the information
on this page then click the Next button.
- The installer application will present you with a list of
installaion choices. Select "Update Drivers and Utilities" then
click the Next button.
- The next dialog will prompt you to "Select the OrangePCi
software you are upgrading from". Choose the appropriate option
and then click the Finish button.
- Read the notes on the "Last Minute Changes" dialog then click
then Next button.
- Select the item "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" then
click the Close button.. Windows will then restart.
- If you are upgrading from a version prior to 3.0, Windows will
present you with the following dialogs as it restarts. If you are
updating from a 3.x version, you may only be presented with some
of the following dialogs. If this happens, simply follow the
instructions below for each new hardware item found.
- "Please wait while Windows builds a driver information
database" - This will take a few minutes.
- "New Hardware Found - PCI Bridge"
- "New Hardware Found - Orange Micro ASIC Controller"
- "New Hardware Found - Orange Micro CDROM Controller"
Windows will install this software automatically. You may be
presented with the following dialog - "To finish setting up your
new hardware, you must restart your computer. Do you want to
restart your computer now?". Click Yes to restart Windows and to
continue loading.
- "New Hardware Found - Orange Micro Hard Disk Controller"
Windows will install this software automatically. You may then
be presented with the following dialog - "To finish setting up
your new hardware, you must restart your computer. Do you want
to restart your computer now?". Click No to continue.
- "New Hardware Found - Orange Micro Floppy Disk Controller"
Windows will install this software automatically. You may then
be presented with the following dialog - "To finish setting up
your new hardware, you must restart your computer. Do you want
to restart your computer now?". Click No to continue.
- "New Hardware Found - Orange Micro Network Adapter" Windows
will install this software automatically. After the adapter has
been installed, Windows may present the following dialog - "You
must provide computer and workgroup names that will identify
this computer on the Network". Click OK to continue to Network
Properties. In the Network Properties window, fill in the
Computer Name:, Workgroup: and Computer Description: (Optional)
fields, then click the Close button. Windows will now begin
copying files from the Microsoft Windows 9x Installation CD-ROM
to your C: drive. You will then be presented with the following
dialog - "To finish setting up your new hardware, you must
restart your computer. "Do you want to restart your computer
now?". Click No to continue.
- "New Hardware Found - Orange Micro SCSI Adapter" Windows
will install this software automatically. You may then be
presented with the following dialog - "To finish setting up
your new hardware, you must restart your computer. "Do you want
to restart your computer now?". Click Yes to restart
Windows.
Congratulations! Your Windows 9x upgrade is complete!
Windows NT 4.0 Driver Upgrade (Windows NT Side)
The following items will be updated or added to your Windows
operatingsystem:
- Clipboard Exchange - C:\WINNT\CLIP.EXE
- FastSwitch - C:\WINNT\SWITCH.EXE
- Orange Micro ASIC Controller -
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\OPCPORT.SYS
- Orange Micro CDROM Controller -
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\OPCCDRM.SYS
- Orange Micro Hard Disk Controller -
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\OPCDISK.SYS
- Orange Micro Floppy Disk Controller -
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\OPCFLOP.SYS
- Orange Micro Network Adapter -
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\OPCNDIS.SYS
- Orange Micro SCSI Adapter - C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\OPCSCSI.MPD
- Orange Micro Printing - C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\OPCPRNT.SYS
- Launch the OrangePC by dragging and dropping the OrangePC
Drive C file onto the OrangePCi 3.4 application. This will create
a new preference file and configure the OrangePC Setup to use your
existing OrangePC Drive C file.
- You will be placed in the OrangePC Setup dialog. Next to the
"Hard Disk Drive D" menu item, choose the "Select Emulated Drive".
An Open file dialag will appear select the file"Win 9x 3.4
Update". Click the Cold Boot button to continue.
- After Windows boots, insert the Microsoft Windows NT
Installation CD ROM into your CD ROM drive.
- From the Windows Start button, select Run, type
d:setup in the field provided, and click OK. This
will launch the Setup program.
- A Windows dialog will appear with the title OrangePCi v3.4
Software setup. Click the Next button.
- The "Welcome" Dialog will appear, read the information on this
screen and then click the Next button.
- Select the "Upgrade OrangePC Software for Windows NT" option
then click the Next button.
- Select whether or not you want Fast Switch and Clipboard
Exchange to run automatically when you start up Windows. Choose
YES or NO then click finish.
- Read the notes on the "Last Minute Changes" dialog then click
the Next button.
- Select the item "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" then
click the Close button. Windows will then restart.
Congratulations! Your Windows NT upgrade is complete!
PART II: DOWNLOAD DISK COPY AND/OR ACROBAT
READER AND/ORSTUFFIT EXPANDER (REQUIRED FOR
INSTALLATION)
This OrangePCi Web Installer is a self-extracting MacBinary
encoded file.Download and extract this image. You may need DiskCopy
6.3 to properly mount the disk images image for installation.
Once extracted, the OrangePCi User's Manual must be opened with
Acrobat
Reader version3.0.1.
PART III: DOWNLOAD ORANGEPC VERSION

- Microsoft Office 2000 Users: In order to install or run
any of the new Microsoft Office 2000 line of products on the
OrangePC under Windows 95 or 98, you must remove the Orange Micro
32 bit floppy driver. This doesn't cause the floppy to be
inaccessible, but just has it run in MS-DOS compatibility mode.
Microsoft has duplicated this problem on Office 2000 and are
currently working on a fix.
To do this you must go to the directory
C:windows\system\iosubsys and delete the file OPCFLOP.PD

PART IV: ORANGEPC 400/500 SERIES
ONLY
The hardware based sound and video drivers for OrangePC 400 and
500 seriesboards are not included in the above Easy Install image. If
you need themthey are included in the following OrangePC Windows 9x
Drivers Disk 1:
