E-Machines E20 Display (Model #EMD01E20) Q&A

December 13, 1995

Q: I attached my display to a recent model Macintosh (Quadra 840av, 660av, 605, LC II/III, PowerBook, Power Macintosh and beyond), and I am not getting an image. What's wrong?

A: This monitor is not compatible with newer Macintosh systems that require separate, or composite, sync. This monitor requires the SYNC to be on the Green signal, therefore it will not work on any Macintosh systems that operate in a Separate sync mode.

Built-i video sources with which this monitor is compatible include the Quadra 610, 650, 700, 800, 900, 950, Centris 610, and 650. Please note, however, that the built-in video of the Quadra 700 and 900 lack support for 1024x768 resolution, so they will only be able to drive this display at its higher, non-WYSIWYG resolution of 1152x870.

Q: I attached my display to the built-in-video port of a Macintosh that is greater than 1 or 2 years old, and I am not getting an image. What's wrong?

A: The cable supplied with this monitor requires the use of a resolution-specific cable adapter. Cable adapters for 1024x768 and 1152x870 are supplied with the monitor. Select a cable adapter that matches up with the resolutions supported by the Macintosh system in use. Not all resolutions are supported with every Macintosh, especially the higher resolutions of 1024x768 and 1152x870 available with this display. Consult your user's guide, an Apple dealer, or Apple directly to inquire about video capability of your Macintosh.

If you need to order any of these items, the necessary three-BNC cable is part number 0008773-0001. The part numbers for the adapters are 0007989-0001 for the 1024x768 version and 0007990-0001 for the 1152 x 870 version. These items can be ordered by calling 800-977-7060 and requesting them by the part numbers listed above.

Q: How do I use Apple's "switch-on-the-fly" resolution feature with this monitor off of my Mac's built-in-video?

A: Apple's "switch-on-the-fly" feature is not supported with the cable commonly used with this display. Demand for this feature is actually quite low since the display only supports 1024x768 and 1152x870 resolution.
