The noise is probably caused by a small piece of metal that is held
to the body of the HD by a screw. One part of it rubs against the shaft
of the HD as it spins. I understand this is to keep the case and the
part that spins at the same electrical potential.

Cures:

1. Loosen the screw and reposition the small metal piece. It probably
   has a dimple worn in it by now.

2. Same as #1 except you also grease it with the appropriate (?) grease.

3. Remove the damn thing and throw it away. That is what I did a couple of
   years ago a number of tries at #1 and #2, which did fix the problem for
   some months, and have had no (WHATS THAT NOISE COMING FROM MY HD??)
   problems to date.

Sider Terminator construction:
The terminator has eleven outputs. Each output is connected to a two
resistor voltage divider. The eleven voltage dividers are connected
in parallel between 18 ground pins and one pin with +5V.


Materials:
Male DB37 connector.
Eleven 330 Ohm resistors
Eleven 220 Ohm resistors
or a DIP resistor pack with these values.


220 ohm resistors, common pin is 29. I assume this has +5V.
The junction of each pair of resistors goes to one each of
pins 13, 14, 16, 20-27.

330 ohm resistors common pins are 1-10 and 30-37. I assume these are ground.

I worked out some more info on the interface. The pinouts from the Atari
Xebec card,
my Apple II Xebec card (what I can determine by careful examination) and my
Sider terminator all jibe, so I think this is accurate.  It does look like a
straight thru cable is all that is required between the Apple II rear panel
and the Sider rear panel once this ribbon cable has been made.
