For Unix, try just 'irc'.  If you don't have the client installed (you'll get
a message to the effect of "command not found" :), you can try for bradenville.

telnet bradenville.andrew.cmu.edu, and follow the prompts.  Note that 
bradenville is often heavily loaded, so getting through on it may take some
trying. 

Either way, you'll soon be at an IRC prompt.  From there, you can join the
IIgs channel by typing /join #AppleIIgs and pressing <Return>.  From then on,
anything you type without a / before it will go to the channel...it works a 
lot like America Online's chat rooms if you've ever seen those.
