New A/D convertor for high-end audio
Texas Instruments has announced the TLC320AD58, a sigma-delta stereo analog-to-digital convertor that sets a new price/performance standard by providing increased performance at about one-third less cost compared to similar competitive devices. Based on an improved design that eliminates undesirable low frequency audio tones, the 'AD58 offers 100 dB typical signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and total harmonic distortion of 0.0015% typical. This makes it ideal for applications such as computer multimedia, digital radio, and industrial process control. The 'AD58 also provides a simple interface to 'C5x and other TI DSPs, programmability for use in master or slave mode in 16- or 18-bit operation, and software control registers for data formats sent out through the serial port.
