Overview: RadiSys' G.726 ADPCM speech compression algorithm, running on a high performance 200 MHz TMS320C6201 Digital Signal Processor (DSP) from TI, compresses speech and other audio signal components of multimedia. The G.726 ADPCM is a bit-exact implementation of ITU standard voice coder for the TMS320C6x. This coder accepts A-law or mu-law PCM speech samples and compresses it at rates of 40-, 32-, 16- or 8- kbps.

The G.726 software code requires 6.2 MIPS (duplex), 6 Kword of program memory and 256 Kwords of data memory. The G.726 algorithm has been optimized to compress speech to the highest quality. The coder is based on adaptive differential waveform quantization and passes Fax, DTMF and other telephony tones. The primary applications of this coder are in digital circuit multiplex equipment (DCME), satellite telephony, and wireless standards such as PACS, DECT and PHP (Japan).

Ideal Performance:
Algorithm Verification: Full ITU test vectors compatibility (bit-exact). Listening, continuous and DTMF tone passing tests on SPIRIT-6000.
