| Overview: | The SPIRIT-40 Dual VME is ideal for applications that require parallel processing. This board is based upon two TI TMS320C40 DSPs and features 512 kBytes of zero-wait-state memory per C40, upgradeable to 16 MBytes per board. The global bus SRAM memory operates on a shared-access basis, allowing VME host and C40 access to the entire memory space on a cycle-by-cycle basis. This simplifies software development and accelerates movement of large data arrays (compared to dual-port RAM systems). Twelve Comm Ports are brought to the front panel, six from each C40. To simplify interconnection of external Comm Port devices, each connector includes a bi-directional external interrupt signal to the C40, as well as a Reset Out signal. A third signal, the Token Restore, acts as a global reset to properly connect arrays of C40s and prevent damage to their Comm Ports. A secondary connector provides access to TCLK lines. An (E)EPROM holds board configuration information along with boot code for C40[0]. The SPIRIT-40 Dual VME also provides an RS-232 for interface with external devices. An extensive set of development tools including RadiSys' BRAHMA debugger, TI's C Compiler/assembler/linker, a complete library for host-to-board communications, and optimized C40 libraries are available. |
