| Overview: | The SPIRIT-40 QUAD VME is ideal for array-DSP-processing applications. This board utilizes four TI TMS320C40 DSPs, offering 256 kBytes of zero wait-state local memory per C40, expandable to 24 Mbytes of local memory. Four C40 processors share the main bus memory operating in "round-robin" fashion. This ensures all the processors have access to shared SRAM. A single processor may access the shared SRAM with a one wait-state delay. The SPIRIT-40 QUAD card may operate as an independent node in an array processor application. Programs may be loaded from the boot EEPROM, via JTAG, or via the Comm Ports. Intra-card processor communication may be done via the shared memory or ASM-C ports (a superset of the C40 Comm Port). Inter-card communication is done through the ASM-C ports. Configuration and status registers are available to all C40 processors. Inter-DSP interrupts are also supported. For advanced array processing, a kernel which supports up to 100 C40 nodes is available for use with multiple SPIRIT-40 QUAD VME boards. The configuration, status, and control registers of the SPIRIT-40 QUAD card have the same C40 locations and usage as the SPIRIT-40 Dual VME, thus increasing the software transportability between the two cards. |
