| Overview: |
MATLAB allows you to speed up interpreted ".m" files by calling compiled C code (".mex" files). Paramex extends this by allowing the C code to run on DSP boards, giving you access to real-time performance. Paramex therefore integrates the intensive compute performance of DSP chips with the data visualization power of MATLAB. Because Paramex uses 3L Parallel C as the programming environment for the DSPs, it is easy to make use of not just one DSP, but many of them running in parallel, for ultimate performance. Multi-tasking, multi-threading and automatic support for any number of DSPs is provided. Starting out with just one DSP though is simply a matter of recompiling your original ".mex" file. No source changes are required. Any processor in the target network can call MATLAB on the host computer to execute built-in MATLAB functions, ".m" files, or ".mex" files that run on the host. For example, any DSP can execute mexEvalString("plot(s)"); to plot the matrix "s". Full and sparse matrices can be passed between MATLAB on the host and any of the DSPs. Paramex also adds matrix-based inter-processor communication operations to Parallel C. Any processor in the DSP network can read or write ".mat" data files. |
