Question: Set register to prevent external bus from taking over (low hold bit) - what happens if the external part already has control of the bus, and then you set the bit. Does it force it off?

Answer: Hold and hold A work on a clk by clk basis (H1 low to H1 low). Setting NOHOLD will eventually pull HOLDA inactive and return control to the C3x.
