Question: Wants to know if the XRESET will empty the XSR?

Answer: Yes. Refer to bit 3 of Serial-Port Global-Control Register on page 8-16. If this bit is a 1 then the transmit shift register is not empty. If it is a 0, then it is empty. XRESET causes this bit to go low which means it empties the transmit shift register.
