The TMS320C20X Evaluation Module Kit developed by Spectrum Digital, gives designers
a complete and cost effective way to take their designs from concept to production. At a
suggested price of $895, the kit is the easiest way to fully evaluate and begin developing
code for embedded applications. The C20x EVM builds on TI's industry-leading aray of
development tools that allow designers to take full advantage of the benefits of DSP-based
systems.
Utilizing the TMS320C203-80MHz DSP, the C20x EVM gives designers access to the
industry's most powerful DSP specifically optimized for embedded applications. The highly
integrated 40-MIPS DSP represents an important breakthrough over traditional
microcontroller, by providing highly integrated DSP functions.
The C20X EVM comes complete with a C20x evaluation board, audio interface, on-board
UART, fixed-point assembly language tools, an RS232-based debugger, power supply, sample
applications code and complete documentation.
This module was designed to allow engineering and software personnel to:
- Rapidly develop, debug and benchmark software algorithms
- Quickly prototype customer application hardware
- Obtain an off-the-shelf, stand alone controller for low or medium volume applications
- Readily familiarize themselves with Digital Signal Processing principles
- Develop algorithms requiring a Codec
Hardware Features:
- TMS320C203 DSP operating at 40 mips with 128K words of zero wait state memory
- TLC320AD55 Sigma Delta Codec with RCA jack input and output
- On chip UART with RS232 Drivers
- On board UART
- 32K words on board Flash ROM
- 4 Expansion Connectors
- On board IEEE 1149.1 JTAG connection for optional emulation
- 5V only operation
- Universal Power supply
C2000 Assembly Language tools:
- The assembler translates assembly language source code into machine language COFF object
files. It also supports a macro language that enables users to create their own
"instructions".
- The archiver allows you to manage archive files (also called libraries) which consist of
a collection of source code files or COFF object files.
- The linker allows you to combine COFF object files into a single executable COFF output
file. The linker allocates relocatable sections, symbols and resolves external references
between input files.
- The hex conversion utility allows you to convert a COFF output file into ASCII-Hex,
Intel, Tektronix, Motorola-S, or TI-Tagged Object file formats that can be used as input
to an EPROM programmer.
- The cross-reference utility accepts linked object files and produces a listing of all
symbols, their definitions, including the names of linked source files where they are
defined and referenced.
- The absolute lister accepts linked object files and produces an file that can be used
with the assembler to produce an abolute listing file that contains the absolute addresses
of all assembled instructions.
RS232-based EVM Debugger
Compatible with the TI C compliler ant eh XDS510 high-level language debugger, the
C20x EVM debugger can be used with all devices in the C2000 generation to reduce overall
development time. Features include:
- symbolic debugging to increase program readability while debugging
- single stepping that allows developers to execute one line at a time for more system
code visibility
- breakpoints to stop code on any sigle line
- mnemonic assembly that converts machine code back to assembly code
- variable watch windows that can display program data in multiple formats
Applications Code
The EVM includes application code to test different on-board peripherals. In
addition, customers can download a growing list of additonal applications code on TI's
World Wide Web site http//www.ti.com/sc/docs/dsps/products/c2xx/index.htm
