TI extends warranty to three years

High quality, benchmark on-time delivery and satisfied customers have led Texas Instruments to extend its semiconductor product warranty to three years.

"Total quality business practices have resulted in dramatically increased product quality as well as the industry benchmark for on-time delivery performance," said Julie England, vice president of quality at TI. "We believe this three-year warranty period, coupled with TI's tradition of resolving quality issues directly with customers, will meet our customers' warranty needs."

Measurement data and customer comments show that TI sets the on-time delivery standard in the industry. In fourth quarter, 1994, 97 percent of products were shipped on-time.

The Semiconductor Group has received more than 500 quality awards since 1985, including the Deming Prize in Japan, the Ford TQE award in the United States, three Gold Awards from Stack International in Europe and the Taiwan National Quality Award.

The new three-year warranty sets the reliability standard for the rest of the worldwide SC industry to follow. It is retroactive to January 1, 1995, and covers component replacement or credit. Military products and silicon purchased through distributors also are covered.

This new warranty does not apply to certain SC products such as dry packaged products, software or bare silicon die. Board rework costs also are not covered.
