TI offers widest CBT logic device

Additions to TI's Widebus cross bar technology (CBT) switching logic include the industry's widest bit width and the first device with synchronous control capabilities.

These advances will improve system performance in personal computers, workstations, portable systems-such as notebook and laptop computers-hard disk drives and telecommunications systems.

CBT logic is based on simple N-channel transistor switches with a low on-chip resistance of only 4 ohms. This achieves a propagation delay of 250 picoseconds -- 16 times faster than CMOS or BiCMOS logic. CBT logic can be used in extremely fast bus connections, bus exchanges, 5-to-3-volt signal translation, memory interleaving and bus byte-swapping.

"In applications where performance is very important, our CBT logic's propagation delay won't slow down the system," said Hal Speed, TI strategic marketing manager. "And our Widebus devices, with bit-widths up to 24-bits, can reduce component count for today's wider data bus requirements."

The SN74CBT16xxx devices are available now from Texas Instruments and its authorized distributors.
