220 MHz video palette offer 24 bit-true color at 1024 x 760 resolution

The TVP3025 RAMDAC (Random Access Memory Digital-to-Analog Converter) operates at higher speeds and provides more colors at higher resolutions, meeting the graphics requirements of the latest generation of PC workstations and Windows™ accelerators.

The TVP3025 is a single chip graphics system back-end that implements all the interface functions required by the graphics controller and Video Random Access Memory (VRAM). The RAMDAC device supports speeds of 135-, 175-, or 220 MHz, enabling 24-bit true color (16.7 million colors) at 1024 x 768 resolution and 16-bit true color (65,536 colors) at up to 1600 x 1280 resolution.

Programmable frequency synthesizers

The TVP3025 extends TI's VIP(video interface palettes) family by integrating higher levels of functionality. Internal PLL functions reduce component count and board space: Additionally, system noise and electrical emissions have been reduced by bringing high frequency signals on to the device. The TVP3025 also features a dual-register controller interface, making it compatible with many of the currently available industry-standard graphics controller devices.

The TVP3025 was jointly defined by TI and S3 Incorporated of Santa Clara, Calif., a supplier of graphics accelerator products for PCs. The device is hardware and software compatible with the high-performance S3 Vision964, a 64-bit VRAM-based PC graphics accelerator device.

The 64-bit TVP3025 provides an effective migration path from previous generation graphics back-end systems because it is sufficiently software-compatible with widely used 32-bit RAMDACs, such as the Brooktree BT485.

TI RAMDAC's are incorporated on numerous award winning graphics accelerator boards: Number Nine Computer Corp. uses the TVP3025 on the 'Imagine128', which was honored as the "best New Peripheral" at Spring Comdex. The TVP3020 (TVP3025 predecessor) is being used by Matrox, who recently took three 'Editor's Choice awards' in a recent issue of PC Magazine.

The TVP3025 is available now from Texas Instruments and our authorized distributors.
