The TFB2003 parallel-protocol-interface (PPI) controller is a member of the Texas Instruments Futurebus+ (FB+) chip set. The device is an integration and upgrade of the TFB2002B Futurebus+ I/O controller and the TFB2022A Futurebus+ data path unit. By combining these devices into a single chip, the performance, board area and system reliability are increased and the cost per FB+ interface is decreased. The increased performance includes both additional features and speeds of 140 Mbyte/sec compelled rate. This represents a 200 to 300% performance upgrade dependent on the specific transactions.
The PPI support is fully compliant to the Futurebus+ standard (IEEE std. 896.1-1991), and, when combined with the FB1650 (BTL transceiver) will provide a high performance, low cost integrated FB+ solution. The TFB2003 is capable of supporting 32-or 64-bit data paths on Futurebus+ and the host interface independently. Further, the address width support can be programmed to either 32 or 36 bits to give the system designer up to 68 Gbytes of addressable space. The TFB2003 contains the control logic necessary to translate Futurebus+ transactions into synchronous host-interface (HIF) transactions that can easily be converted to a number of local buses, and can easily interface to a variety of popular microprocessors such as SPARC, R4000, 680x0, 88xxx, 80x86, and Alpha AXP. Also this device is able to interpret HIF transactions and master the Futurebus+ when applicable.
Additional features include message mailbox support, full reset, and preaddress decode signals. Message mailbox support allows 2567 mail boxes to be used for transferring information to multiple Futurebus+ slaves in a single transaction. Full reset provides the capability of hot swapping. Preaddress decode signals indicate whether an access is being made to host memory, extended units, control and status registers, or message mailbox space.
Typical applications for the TFB2003 include: telecom, industrial controllers, single board computers, and other profile A, B, M, & F applications.
The TFB2003PDN is offered in a 304-pin plastic quad flat package (PDN) at a suggested resale price of $1.30 per device in quanitites of 1,000.
