New price/performance point in high-end audio

Texas Instruments unveils the TLC320AD58 sigma-delta stereo analog-to-digital converter that sets a new price/performance standard in the high-end audio market. This device offers 100 dB typical signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) based on an improved design which also eliminates undesirable low frequency audio tones. This means that the TLC320AD58 does not generate the unwanted audible tones associated with other competing devices used to design hi-fi equipment such as mini-disk (MD). The TLC320AD58 offers this improved performance, including total harmonic distortion of 0.0015% typical, at about one-third less cost compared to similar competitive devices.

This device offers a glueless interface to the TMS320C5x family or other DSPs. The programmability of the TLC320AD58 allows the device to be used in the master or slave mode as well as 16-bit or 18-bit operation. Software control registers allow the choice of the data being sent out the serial port in MSB-first or LSB-first formats.

In addition to high end consumer audio, this device is useful in computer multimedia, digital radio, instrumentation, and industrial process control. The part is available in a 28-pin SOIC package. Suggested resale price per device in quantities of 1.000 is $9.25
