High performance, low system cost chipset for AMPS/TACS

Product Features

The TCM8010 and TCM8002 build a highly integrated baseband chipset for AMPS/TACS cellular phones. The optimized chipset architecture reduces the material cost of the phone and minimizes the power consumption in standby. Digital trimming drastically reduces the test time and manufacturing cost of a phone to ensure a competitive, low-cost phone design for the worldwide consumer cellular phone market.

The TCM8010 audio processor includes an on-chip compander to provide a high-quality voice transmission. Two integrated input amplifiers allow handset or handsfree operation. The on-chip DTMF generator provides 16 tones, programmable for level adjustments. Two integrated ADCs are used to monitor the RSSI level and battery voltage. Three DACs are used to control the transmit output power, to trim the VCTCXO and to adjust the response of the first IF stage.

The TCM8002 data processor reduces micro-controller software development to a minimum. All required data processing is implemented in hardware. A total of 12 events are microcontroller interrupt programmable. A serial 4-wire interface minimizes the number of micro-controller pins used. The integrated, programmable, 20-pin I/O expansion provides system support to the keyboard, the display and the RF section. The on-chip watchdog fulfills the requirements of the AMPS/TACS standards of a micro-controller independent watchdog.

The chipset works from a 5 V supply and needs only one crystal or external clock for operation. The typical power consumption of the chipset is 14 mA in operation and 3.5 mA in standby.

Both devices are available in 44-pin Mini QFP packages.
