Universal Serial Bus (USB)
Questions and Answers

What is USB?

As its name implies, USB is a serial bus that allows connection of up to 127 peripherals from a single port on a PC. USB brings true "plug and play" to the PC with automatic configuration and detection upon connection, permitted while powered, without installation of software or hardware or having to reboot the computer.

When will I as a consumer see USB on my PC?

USB products, connectors; chipsets; and board-level computers, are available now. PCs with USB capability should reach the consumer by the end of the summer. Peripherals, including keyboards; monitors; mice; and joysticks, are expected in the fall.

Do I need software to run it?

Future versions of Windows 95 will include the necessary software (drivers) to support USB without any extra software.
