DALLAS (February 22, 1995) - Texas Instruments (TI) announced today it has appointed five distributors in China to create one of the country's most extensive distribution networks for semiconductor products.
These distributors include QHD Arrow Electronics, Electrocon (PRC), Gaintune, Gold Insignia Electronics and Marubun. As an integral part of TI's long-term strategy in China, the new distribution network will help serve the rapidly growing market. Initially, the five distributors will focus on the major cities in China, such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Wuhan and Beijing, and will further expand in the future to cover other areas of the country.
The semiconductor market in China is growing at about 40 percent per year. The current semiconductor market, as measured by the value of components assembled into end equipment, is close to $3 billion. Domestic manufacturing facilities supply less than 10 percent of the market.
Tom Balch, managing director of Texas Instruments Hong Kong Ltd., said, "These appointments allow us to tap into the booming electronics market in China. It creates tremendous opportunities for TI's semiconductor business and underlines our company's commitment to expanding operations in China. The distribution network, coupled with our regional resources and local marketing efforts, puts TI in an excellent position to serve China customers."
An industry pioneer and the world leader in digital signal processors for more than 10 years, Texas Instruments Semiconductor Group provides innovative solutions to more than 15,000 customers worldwide in the computer, communications, consumer, automotive, military and industrial markets.
