Windows Based Software Development Environment for TI DSPs Helps Developers Reduce Time to Market

DALLAS (January 8, 1996) -- A new software development environment designed to bring Windows™ based development to Texas Instruments digital signal processors (DSPs), was announced today by Texas Instruments, Inc. and GO DSP Corporation. GO DSP's Code Composer™ highlights a first for DSP debugging and code development environments, providing the only fully-integrated programming environment with a graphical user interface (GUI). TI is the world's leading supplier of DSPs, according to industry analyst Forward Concepts, and provides comprehensive digital signal processing solutions, such as the Code Composer tool, to meet its customers' system solutions needs.

Code Composer Version 1.5 offers a comprehensive development environment for TI's single or multiple TMS320 fixed- and floating-point DSPs. The software brings together high- and low-level DSP debuggers, signal probes and scopes, profiling, full compatibility with TI's own development tools, and user customization features in a fully integrated Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 environment. Code Composer 1.5 enhances the development options for TMS320 DSP designers, and TI has announced that the tool will be available through its worldwide distribution network.

"Code Composer, version 1.5 is another step forward for TI and TI's customers," said TI Fixed-Point DSP Business Manager Jim Larimer. "We believe that Code Composer's new capabilities will speed up development time and help DSP developers create new applications cost-effectively."

Among Code Composer's advanced features are software oscilloscopes and signal analyzers that enable developers to use probe points typically used only in hardware design. Also in the new version is an interactive profiling feature that allows users to profile and develop code at the same time from within the Code Composer environment, helping to save development time.

"This version of Code Composer leapfrogs a generation in DSP development environments," said Greg Da Silva, president for GO DSP. "The software offers features and productivity gains that until now were found only in mainstream development environments. Code Composer 1.5 is already helping to reduce time to market for TMS320 DSP developers."

In addition, the C-interpretive GO DSP Extension Language (GEL) allows developers to extend or customize Code Composer by adding further debugging features or GUI control of applications. Other time-saving features include full multiprocessing support, DSP project management, incremental compiling for building programs in sections, seamless background compiling with TI's tools, animated run to enhance working with programs at a functional level, interactive profiling to profile code during debugging, advanced program control to help move through code efficiently, an integrated professional editor with dynamic color syntax highlighting, and context-sensitive on-line help.

Code Composer supports the TMS320C3x, 'C4x and 'C5x families of DSPs from TI. GO DSP plans support for additional TMS320 products, such as the 'C2xx and 'C54x families. Code Composer, Version 1.5 is available now at a cost of $2,000 from GO DSP and from TI's authorized distributors worldwide.
