Texas Instruments SN75LBC776 is the first fully integrated GeoPort transceiver, replacing the drivers, receivers and charge pump, eliminating the need for as many as four devices. The LBC776 enables the standard to increase to data rates of 4 megabits per second, supporting isochronous or "real-time" data flow for telephony, sound and imaging. The LBC776 provides a single-chip interface for the 9-pin GeoPort host connector.
The TI GeoPort transceiver operates in conjunction with Digital Signal Processors, such as TI's industry-leading TMS320 family, to form a complete solution for real-time PC telephony. The LBC776 is also well-suited for applications in analog modems, PC add-in cards, digital camera interfaces and serial port printers.
The GeoPort serial interface standard addresses the need for a simple, cross-platform telecommunications connection. GeoPort connections make it straightforward for PCs to connect to one another through private exchange branches (PBXs) or telephone services such as Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), as well as through ordinary analog telephone lines. Using GeoPort connections, manufacturers and software developers can provide products that add real-time telecommunications features to PCs such as phones, faxes, high-speed modems, digital answering machines and teleconferencing.
"The TI GeoPort transceiver will increase the speed and electro-static discharge protection of the GeoPort serial interface," said Raymond Moyer, TI's strategic marketing manager for serial port products. "It's faster, more robust and only requires a single voltage supply at about the same cost as lower-performing, higher-power discrete solutions."
TI worked closely in product development with Versit, a consortium of industry-leading companies with the charter to develop and promote open standards for interoperability among diverse computer and telecommunications devices. Important among these standards is GeoPort.
The TI SN75LBC776 is now available from Texas Instruments. Suggested
retail pricing is $2.31 each in quantities of 1,000.
