DALLAS (Aug. 26, 1996) -- A new CD-based "Designer's Guide
and Data Book" from Texas Instruments (TI) includes a powerful
search engine that will save designers time when they need to
find the appropriate mixed-signal or analog
device. The CD, called an
InfoNavigator by TI, is available free of charge and includes almost 15,000 pages of technical documentation
on all of TI's approximately 2,000 mixed-signal and analog semiconductors.
"The CD-based Designer's Guide supplements our printed documentation
as well as our World Wide Web site," said Alun Roberts, strategic
marketing manager for TI's mixed-signal products. "The CD
is very user-friendly because the intuitive search engine built
into it was modeled after the way engineers do research. In some
ways, the CD is more efficient than a World Wide Web site because
users aren't limited by the search capabilities of a particular
browser and they aren't forced to wait for files to download off
the Internet. With the InfoNavigator, everything is right at their
fingertips."
An engineer can begin a search on the CD-based Designer's Guide by choosing the functionality required of the device. The search engine then generates a list of products fitting this description. The user can then provide additional search criteria to narrow the list even further. Next, the user can review a high-level technical overview on each device before accessing comprehensive data sheets and application notes.
Alternative search methods include inputting a device's part number or the part number of a device from another vendor. This latter method will generate a list of TI products that are functionally equivalent to the device.
The information contained in the Designer's Guide goes beyond data sheets and data books. It also includes application reports, reference designs and macro models, information on the availability of evaluation modules, seminar and trade show listings, articles from TI's mixed-signal and analog customer newsletter, "Showcase", detailed information on various semiconductor packages and a glossary of pertinent terms.
TI will continually update the information contained in the Designer's Guide, and will distribute a free and updated CD to current users every six months.
"Because of the lengthy time it takes to reprint materials, the CD will in all likelihood have more accurate information than printed documents," said Roberts. "Of course, whenever any information on any of our products changes, the new information is available immediately on our Web site."
