Texas Instruments New Codec/Filter Combos Give Designers More Flexibility with Less Board Space, Lower Cost
DALLAS (Oct. 27, 1997) -- Today Texas Instruments introduced new pulse-code modulated (PCM) codecs with voice-band filtering, further building its technology leadership in the mixed-signal market. These codecs, which offer programmable transmit and receive gain, are ideal in DSP-based solutions for central office line cards, PABXs, and voiceband communications systems.
The new devices, designated the TCM37C13A, TCM37C14A and TCM37C15A, provide designers with on-chip, programmable gain select. This decreases the component count due to the removal of discrete alternatives, lowers the overall system cost, and uses less board space. The TCM37C13A, TCM37C14A and TCM37C15A provide all the functions necessary to interface a full-duplex, 4-line voice telephone circuit with a TDM system.
Features/Benefits
- Programmable transmit and receive gain control with pin selectable gain/attenuation level
|
Allows real-time adjustment of gain without the expense of a fully-programmable gain system. |
- Differential output (C14A)
|
Capable of directly driving a transformer load. |
- Pin selectable master clock rate on C14A (1.536, 1.544, 2.048 MHz)
|
Compatible with many standard telecom backplane speeds. |
|
|
Reduces power dissipation. |
- Pin selectable u-Law/A-Law companding (C14A)
|
Can be used with either industry standard for companding. |
End Equipment Applications
Applications for the TCM37C13A, TCM37C14A and TCM37C15A include:
- Central office line cards
- PABXs
- Voiceband communications systems
Pricing, Packaging and Availability
The TCM37C13A is now sampling from TI. Volume production is planned for the fourth quarter of 1997, available from TI and its authorized distributors. Planned pricing is $2.02 in quantities of 1,000. TI plans to make the device available in a 20-pin dual in-line package (DIP) or a 20-pin small-outline integrated circuit (SOIC).
The TCM37C14A and TCM37C15A are now available from TI and its authorized distributors. The TCM37C14A is in a 24-pin SOIC with a suggested retail price of $2.22 in quantities of 1,000. The TCM37C15A is available in a 20-pin DIP or a 20-pin SOIC with a suggested retail price of $2.02 in quantities of 1,000.
