Texas Instruments Introduces the Industry’s Only Universal Bus Transceiver That Provides Benefits of JTAG in a Convenient Flow Through Pinout

DALLAS (Oct. 27, 1997) – Strengthening its leadership in the boundary-scan logic market, Texas Instruments (TI) introduces the only IEEE Standard 1149.1 (JTAG) universal bus transceiver (UBT) on the market incorporated into a thin shrink-small outline package (TSSOP). The 64-pin TSSOP has leads on only two sides of the package, providing efficient board placement with flow through design, making the device ideal in applications such as telecommunications, inter-networking and high-end computing.

This device, designated the LVTH18512, combines D-type latches and D-type flip-flops for operation in transparent, latched and clocked modes. The LVTH18512 has JTAG, which increases testability and eliminates the need for traditional probing.

TSSOP dual inline package	Easier to design based on its facility for flow through layout. Efficient placement of the component on the board. Saves board space.
UBT functionality	Device has the functionality of a bus flip-flop with clock enable, bus flip-flop, bus latch, bus driver, transceiver, latched transceiver, registered transceiver and registered transceiver with clock enable, all in one chip.
IEEE Standard 1149.1 (JTAG)	Ability to test and debug hardware without physically probing the board, thus lowering total cost and maintenance.
3.3V operation with 5V tolerant I/O	Reduced power consumption. Capability to interface with 5V or 3.3V signals in a mixed-voltage environment.

The LVTH18512 is now available from TI and its authorized distributors. The LVTH18512 is in a 64-pin TSSOP with suggested pricing at $7.00 in quantities of 1,000.
