10-bit Serial ADC from TI Interfaces Directly to DSPs and Microcontrollers
DALLAS (Dec. 22, 1997) -- A new 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) featuring the industry’s highest speed in a small eight-pin package is now available from Texas Instruments, the world’s leading provider of digital signal processing (DSP) solutions. This single-channel, low-power ADC is ideal in applications such as industrial process control and metering, digital motor controllers, mass storage and tape drives, wireless communications and various automotive systems.
The device, designated the TLV1572, features a flexible glueless serial interface for both TI’s TMS320 DSPs and (Q)SPI compatible microcontrollers. The TLV1572 is specified for operation from 2.7 to 5.5V and is optimized for low power, dissipating only 8mW at 3V and 25mW at 5V. An automatic powerdown mode saves energy by reducing the current to 10uA when conversions are not being performed. The TLV1572 achieves high accuracy with DNL < or = +/- 1 LSB, and 58 dB of signal-to-noise + distortion ratio.
