1047 #2

Home Up 1047 1047 #2 Supra-Selector 1070

This is another Korting 1047 Export (to the USA).  This radio came in with a broken ferrite rod mount.  Fortunately I can see all the coil lead.  On the DBT and straight mains the FM showed reception.  There is not audio.  I try to get some audio out of a radio before restoration.  If I hear a station that means there a lot good about the chassis.

I will be digging into this chassis to find any critical bad parts before a total restoration is performed. I want to guarantee successful restoration.

UPDATE I found nothing of note worthiness.  I believe an output tube shorted and took out some associated components.  This radio sounds great even  before I have totally competed the alignments.

Completed Audio output board.  I found a few crispy critters (burned out parts).

One carbon comp resistor in the FM tuner.

Rebuilding the missing mounting tab.

Determine what wire goes where.

IMG_6881.JPG (615431 bytes) IMG_6882.JPG (704537 bytes)

Each broken wire is made up of about 7 individually insulated wires.  Litz wire.

Once the center tap lead is reattached simple wax is used to hold the wires in place.

After some considerable staring at the schematic, tracing, comparing with other radios I got it hooked back up.

Powered up for the first time after replacing components.  And it receives!  Next alignment.

IMG_6891.JPG (1007076 bytes)

There appears to be no alignment instructions any where on this planet.  But that won't stop me.  These circuits are used in many other German design radios.

AM and SW is totally aligned and is very sensitive.  An external length of wire is needed for the best of SW reception.

The FM alignment is next.  I will use the SABA Freudenstadt 125 stereo instructions.

The Detector circuit is of the same design.  And as a bonus there is an English written alignment section! Caution -

The IF is 10.7 and not as in the 125 instructions.

IMG_6892.JPG (618237 bytes)The new tuning indicator open and closes more completely.   IMG_6893.JPG (573450 bytes)The original tuning indicator opened only to 1/4 inch and overlapped projections when receiving a strong station.  IMG_6894.JPG (1032106 bytes)  Tweeter with bad foam.   IMG_6896.JPG (1243452 bytes)Deteriorated foam to be replaced with new foam (white).  IMG_6898.JPG (755797 bytes) IMG_6899.JPG (1257098 bytes)Sun faded grill cloth flipped so the nice dark brown faces out.
IMG_6900.JPG (1034385 bytes)Flipped grill cloth.  IMG_6901.JPG (1153254 bytes) Sounds great on FM SW and AM broadcast.   IMG_6902.JPG (376824 bytes) IMG_6904.JPG (1098169 bytes)An external FM antenna should improve reception and permit maximizing reception with out having to turn the whole radio cabinet.  IMG_6905.JPG (856407 bytes) IMG_6906.JPG (964059 bytes)

New power cord.

IMG_6903.JPG (217064 bytes) The circled pulley is on a fixed lug.  It does not turn thus giving a rough feel to the FM tuning and SW fine tuning capability.  The only thing left to do is pack it up for shipping!

Possible Schematics:   I purchased a schematic from:  https://www.samswebsite.com/  No alignment instructions.

FM alignment instructions from: http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/saba_freudenstadt_125_stereo.html  Same architecture, different IF frequency.  I will let you know how this works out.
