About three weeks ago I received a
desparate call from my son. The 05 ranger died on a busy 4 lane
road. He safely coasted into a parking lot the symptoms were cranking no
start. The first thing I had him check was the fuel pump cut off switch
found under the dash on the passenger side. Once he pushed it the engine
started.
Periodically with out any pattern
the engine would die or not start. Pushing the button restored
function. But you had to really push on it multiple times to get the
engine to start. Today 12/15/12 the engine died again in the drive
way. Twice it died and would not start. We decided to remove and
inspect the switch.
We found a burned connector seen
below. I ordered a new switch and connector totaling around $200 to be
pick up next week.
