12-Bit A/D performance for $4.90

The TLC2543 sets a new price/performance standard in the marketplace. This self-contained data acquisition chip offers typical power dissipation of only 5 mW - nearly 50-percent lower than most competitive 12-bit converters - at about half the cost.

Unlike other 12-bit converters, the TLC2543 has 11 analog-input channels and a 10-µs maximum conversion time over the operating temperature ranges. It has three self-test channels and features an on-board 14-channel multiplexer with sample and hold, a system clock and an 8-bit control register.

The TLC2543 interfaces easily with DSPs and microprocessors and using a simple serial interface. The TLC2543 parts are pin-for-pin compatible with the TLC2542 12-bit and TLC1543 10-bit converters from TI so upgrades are easily achieved with minor software adjustments. The TLC2543 is available in a 20-pin SOIC package and in DIP or PLCC packages.

This single chip offers designers the performance needed for such applications as instrumentation, automotive, industrial (motor control, robotics, numerically controlled machine tools, data log), and DSP-based motion control.
