To minimize design effort and reduce system design cycle time, TI has developed a reference design highlighting the TLC2543 12 bit ADC, TMS370C712 microcontroller and assorted support circuitry. For many sensor based applications, this reference design represents a "ready to use" total solution. The EVM comes complete with 3 hex displays for digital readout, pre-programmed microcontroller, TSL250 electro-optic light to voltage sensor, temperature sensor, variable voltage input, 1x buffered input, 2x buffered inputs, and user defined inputs. Easy to use switches are provided to initiate a conversion and select 1 of the 11 inputs.
The TLC2543 sets a new price/performance standard in the marketplace. The TLC2543 is a self-contained data acquisition chip offering typical power dissipation of only 5 mW-nearly 50% lower than most competitive 12-bit converters-at about half the cost.
The TLC2543 has 11 analog-input channels and a 10-µs maximum conversion time over the operating temperature ranges. It has three self-test channels and features an on-board 14-channel multiplexer with sample and hold, a system clock and an 8-bit control register.
Included in the application information are source code listings for the microcontroller, software flowcharts of various subroutines, schematic and board layout with etch patterns. Detailed instructions on grounding schemes to reduce PWB noise along with information on driving the analog input of a switched capacitor ADC are also described. Easy to follow user documentation is provided. Flexibility has been designed in to allow customizing the EVM input circuitry or use of a different microcontroller. Only a +5 V supply is required for operation.
The EVM is available in the US by calling 1-800-477-8924 ext. 5800 and is priced at $75.00. It can also be ordered through a local TI sales office or authorized TI distributor.
