DC brush motor controller

Product Features

The TPIC2101 is a single-phase low-side 50 mA pre-FET driver with PWM output which provides constant speed control of unidirectional DC brush motors. The device compensates for the speed variations due to supply voltage fluctuations by modifying the PWM duty cycle inversely with changes in supply voltage from 8 V to 16 V. By adjusting the gate drive duty cycle to the FET, constant effective load voltage is maintained and thus constant speed achieved.

For automatic speed control, the TPIC2101 may be interfaced directly with the system micro-controller. Manual speed control can be achieved by the supply with a variable resistor. The application circuit shows a simplified unidirectional low-side drive scheme for a DC motor.

The TPIC2101 controller operates in a sleep state (<200 µA), a run state, or a fault state. The device also features fault protection for the FET and the load for increased system reliability. The TPIC2101 is available in a 14-pin DIP or SO packaging for reduced printed circuit board space.
