The rapid deployment of digital circuitry in all application areas
has created a need for cost effective high speed clock recovery
and clock distribution solutions. The TLC2932
is a 50 MHz high precision stand-alone CMOS Phase Locked Loop
(PLL) with external frequency divider and a loop filter for low
jitter and added design flexibility. End equipments such as video,
hard disk drive, CD ROM drive, graphics applications, set top
box and telecommunication can benefit from its stability and flexible
frequency divide arrangement, all in a low profile 14-pin TSSOP
package.
TI is offering an evaluation module, TLC2932 EVM, to assist system designers in evaluating this cost effective solution for competitive time-to-market applications. The board features an on-board programmable reference frequency generator, a set of configuration switches, a user defined low pass filter breadboard area and a frequency divider.
The on-board reference is generated by a 14.318 MHz crystal-based
oscillator, or an external reference frequency can be supplied
via a BNC connector. The output frequency is determined by the
switches setting for ratio M/N (see diagram above) and is achieved
by the onboard counters. Since these counters are socketed they
can be replaced by other higher resolution counters for added
convenience. The user may also select a x1 or x2 output frequency
from the VCO.
Two test points are provided for easy test probe access. The onboard jumpers provide additional accessibility to signals of interest. Configuration switches allow the VCO or PFD to be powered down individually for system power estimation.
The EVM comes with complete documentation that includes circuit diagram, PCB layout, user manual and a detailed device data sheet.
