Texas Instruments Licenses Rambus™ Technology for DSPs, DRAMs and Communications ASICs

HOUSTON, TX and MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (July 21, 1997) - Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE: TXN) and Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ: RMBS) today announced that Texas Instruments (TI) has taken a broad license for Rambus Inc.'s high- bandwidth memory-interface technology. TI will incorporate the technology into several next-generation products including digital signal processors (DSPs), communications ASICs, and dynamic random access memories (DRAMs).

TI is the first to announce a Rambus license for DSP ICs and communications ASICs. Initial products implementing Rambus technology are scheduled to sample early in 1998.

"TI's broad, strategic commitment will enable communications system makers to now enjoy the same Rambus technology benefits that so far have been concentrated in the graphics and multimedia markets," said Subodh Toprani, vice president of Rambus Inc.'s Logic Products Division.

"On the memory side, TI plans to use the Direct Rambus™ interface in the company's 64-megabit and higher density DRAM devices. The Direct Rambus interface is designed to support the higher bandwidth applications that will be required to keep up with the increased processor and logic performances of the future," said Ramesh Gidwani, TI Memory vice president.

"TI will be able to create innovative DRAM products while supporting a standard interface that addresses multiple markets," said Allen Roberts, vice president of Rambus Inc.'s emory Technology Division.
