A significant number of cases (26.7%) occurred in public places. Of the cases which occurred at public places, 38.7% of cases occurred at places of employment, 23.9% in streets, 12% in shopping centres or shops, 5.6% in parking areas, 2.8% in banks, 2.8% at public toilets and 2.1% at schools. The remaining 12% of cases occurred at a variety of other public places. The table below provides a breakdown of the places where the thefts of firearms occurred:

Most complainants claimed that their firearms had been stolen from safes (27.1%). 13.4% claimed that they were stolen from their holsters, and 9.4% claimed that they were stolen from a cupboard or cabinet.
