VBAP (Voice-band Audio Processor) Summary Description
- A single chip, single rail audio PCM CODEC that provides all the filtering and frame sync timing necessary for a standard voice channel.
- Standard serial interface to a TMS320 or any other standard DSP. Transmit and receive directions can be operated independently.
- Direct interface to both a piezo speaker and an electret microphone.
- Operates from a single 5V or 3V supply.
- Transmit encoding (A/D conversion) & receive decoding (D/A conversion) with transmit and receive filtering and framing.
- The family of devices is pin-selectable for either 8-bit companded µ-law and A-law or 13-bit (dynamic range) linear mode.
VBAP End Uses
- Virtually any application in which the human voice requires a digital interface within std. voice band -- with TI's or any other industry-standard Digital Signal Processor (DSP).
- Main Focus: Digital cellular telephone systems.
- Secondary Markets
- Emerging Market: Personal base stations for wireless PBX/local loop- plug into normal wall outlets, for which the 5V VBAP is an effective choice.
