Intersect builds TI's storage portfolio |
Intersect builds TI's storage portfolioIn a move to extend its leadership position in Digital Signal Processing Solutions (DSPS) technology, Texas Instruments recently announced it would acquire Intersect Technologies, Inc.Based in Longmont, Colo., the company is engaged in the design and development of software, firmware and hardware for the mass storage market. Intersect was established in February 1995 and has focused on the creation of advanced storage architectures using TI digital signal processors (DSPs) to develop and implement customer firmware, hardware and software tools and device drivers for mass storage applications such as hard disk drives and removable storage. The acquisition will address the mass storage industry's needs to quickly bring differentiated products to market. It will position TI to deliver complete system-level solutions by creating innovative architectures, helping write complex firmware, software and device drivers and assisting in the development of BIOS software for mass storage applications. TI's announcement that it will buy Intersect marks the company's second major acquisition in the past year aimed at helping the company deliver the most competitive, complete solutions to the mass storage market. In July 1996, TI acquired Silicon Systems Inc., a designer and manufacturer of application-specific mixed-signal mass storage integrated circuits. The Intersect acquisition further enhances TI's mass storage market offering. It combines TI's DSPS technology and manufacturing capacity with TI subsidiary SSi's analog and mixed-signal products and Intersect Technology's system software and firmware expertise. |
