RS-485 differential transceiver

The SN75LBC184 is the first standard footprint RS-485 (C176) differential transceiver to provide integrated transient voltage protection of up to 400 W (typ) for use in electrically noisy environments.

The device supports data rates up to 250 Kbps with half-unit load, allowing up to 64 other similar devices to be connected on the bus. Suitable applications include industrial control, telecommunications, retail and security.

The LBC184 provides powerful protection from large over-voltage transients on the bus pins and is designed to handle secondary pulse effects of a lightning strike without external discrete clamping diodes or multichip modules.

Other features for noisy environments include slew rate control on output drivers. To simplify design, the LBC184 is a compatible drop-in replacement for the SN75176.

SN75LBC184$2.44
SN65LBC184$2.72

Suggested retail pricing in U.S. dollars in 1K quantity.

Features:

  • Transient voltage suppression protects circuit from surges up to 400W
  • Compatible drop-in replacement for SN75176
  • Elimination of external discrete clamping diodes and MCMs
  • Controlled driver slew rates improve data transmission
  • Up to 250Kpbs transmission over unshielded twisted pair
