New ’C6000 development platforms support faster development time

Two new TMS320C6000 development platforms make it easier than ever to begin designing with the world’s most powerful DSPs.

The TMS320C67x EVM and the TMS320C62x multi-channel EVM complement the popular ’C62x EVM as comprehensive development platforms that allow designers to run application software on target ’C6000 hardware.

TI is also extending the special pricing of the ’C62x EVM and launching special pricing of the ’C67 EVM. The PCI-based kits save designers the time and expense of building their own application test board.

The full-sized EVM boards can be used in a PCI expansion slot or on the tabletop with an external power supply and an XDS510 or XDS510WS emulator, sold separately. Functionally, the boards allow high-speed verification, debug and benchmarking of ’C6000 code with the included C source debugger. Connectors on the EVM board provide a DSP External Memory Interface (EMIF) and peripheral signals that enable expansion with third-party daughterboards.

TMS320C67x EVM: Based on the industry’s first 1-GFLOPS floating-point DSP, the kit provides all the functionality and features of the ’C62x EVM. The board’s ’C6701 DSP is pin- and code-compatible with the ’C6201 fixed-point DSPs, allowing designers to run ’C6201 fixed-point code on the ’C6701. A special offer of $1,495 for this tool is available until March 15, 1999.

TMS320C62x Multi-Channel EVM: This new ’C62x EVM is designed specifically for multi-channel telephony applications. With industry-standard connectors and integrated digital interfaces, the board simplifies the task of designing next-century digital telephony systems.

TMS320C62x EVM: The ’C62x EVM special offer of $995 has been extended to March 15, 1999. All EVMs include an easy-to-use Windows™-like C-source debugger, Windows 95™ and Windows NT™ drivers, host PC and DSP software APIs, example applications with source code, various utility applications and technical documentation. EVM bundles are available that include full code-generation tools.

Fastest floating-point DSP now sampling

The TMS320C6701—the industry’s first digital signal processor to deliver 1 GFLOPS (1 billion floating-point operations per second)—is now sampling.

The ’C67x floating-point and the ’C62x fixed point DSPs share a common architecture. This means that the ’C6701 is both pin and code compatible with the ’C6201 and ’C6201B in 35-mm BGA packages. Designers can port code developed for the ’C62x fixed-point devices directly to the ’C67x floating-point devices. ’C6701 volume production is scheduled for 2Q99.
