Signalogic tool provides direct DSP access to MATLAB

Users of MATLAB® workspace now have DSP capabilities not possible before, such as bringing real-world data directly into their simulations, and accelerating or moving simulation segments into real-time on a TI DSP board.

By augmenting MATLAB with TI DSP and data acquisition hardware functions, DSPower® HWLib software from Signalogic provides direct access from the MATLAB workspace to more than 20 types of off-the-shelf Texas Instruments DSP/data acquisition boards. DSPower HWLib enables "hot-line" access to the TI DSP, on-chip and onboard SRAM, serial and other digital I/O, and analog I/O channels, and supports several, ’C54x, and ’C6x-based, as well as ’C25x-,’C3x- and ’C4x-based boards. Signalogic’s Hypersignal-Macro software also supports the EVMC6201 board with visualization, DSP, and instrumentation and measurement functions.

Single-unit cost for DSPower-HWLib software is US $495; the Hypersignal-Macro software is an additional US $989.

TIGER board supports VOP, wireless, RAS

DSP Research (DSPR) announces the release of the TIGER 6201/PCI, a new DSP development system based on TI’s TMS320C62x DSPs. The TIGER 6201/PCI is a DSP development platform for multi-channel telecommunications infrastructure applications, such as H.323 VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) gateways, IS-136/IS-95 cellular base stations, remote access servers, wireless local loop gateways, and satellite base stations.

TI’s ’C6201 DSP on the TIGER 6201/PCI delivers 1600 MIPS and 400 MMACS (million multiply-accumulates per second). The jumper configurable memory architecture of the board includes 1 Mbyte of SBSRAM, 128 kbytes of SRAM, 512 kbytes of Flash, and 16 Mbytes of SDRAM.

The TIGER 6201/PC supports several host communications options. The DMA driven host port interface of the ’C6201 allows access to the entire TIGER 6201/PCI memory space. In master mode, the TIGER 6201/PCI can transfer data to the host at 132 Mbytes per second. Bi-directional interrupts between the host and DSP are also supported.

Single board pricing for the TIGER 6201/PCI starts at US $4,995.

New telephony algorithm suite for TI’s ’C6000

DSP Software Engineering Inc. (DSPSE) has recently introduced DSP software-based telephony algorithms for the TI ’C6201 fixed-point VLIW (Very Long Instruction Word) DSP. The algorithm suite consists of the DTMF (Discrete Tone Multi-Frequency Generator Detector), CP (Call Progress Tone Detector), and ITU G.165 LEC (Line Echo Canceller). These algorithms are fundamental to all telecommunications applications and form a basis for the development of complex, multi-channel voice and data applications.

Pricing for DSPSE’s new telephony algorithms starts at US $25,000.

Audio algorithms provide added design options

ASPI Digital announces improvements to its MPEG audio algorithm line. These new algorithms provide customers additional options when designing MPEG based audio systems, and include single stereo channel on TI’s low-cost, 40-MHz TMS320C32, two stereo channels on TI’s single 60-MHz TMS320C31, and an improved psychoacoustic model which provides higher quality at lower bit rates. For more than six years, ASPI has been offering the highest quality MPEG implementation on the market.

Analogic delivers 30 channels of voice compression

Analogic Corporation recently introduced the TAP-804E computer telephony processor, a new member of the TAP-800 family that delivers 30 channels of G.723.1 voice compression, an entire E1 trunk’s worth in a single PCI slot. The TAP-804E is designed specifically for European installations of advanced computer telephony integration (CTI) applications, such as Voice over IP. Its counterpart for American installations, the TAP-804, supports 24 channels of G.723.1 voice compression, consistent with T1 interfaces common in North America.

Built on a PCI bus platform, the TAP-804E delivers efficient system performance, yielding faster available bandwidth for CTI applications. It is equipped with 15 60-MHz TMS320C32 floating-point processors that provide a maximum 900 MFLOPS of compute power.

The TAP-804E DSP Resource Board supports two industry-standard TDM (time-division multiplexing) data busses; the Multi-Vendor Interface Protocol (MVIP) and the Signal Computing System Architecture (SCSA). Through the TAP-804E’s TDMRouter™, developers can port their applications to the TAP-804E to gain access to the entire computer telephony market.

The TAP-804E is now available with a list price of US $9,495.

Programming solutions for TI’s Flash DSPs introduced

To support programming of TI’s Flash-based DSPs, White Mountain DSP has recently introduced the first-to-market memory programmers, Mountain-Flash and Mountain-FlashPRO.

The Mountain-Flash single socket programmer is available in two models; one for TI’s TMS320F206 DSP and the other for TI’s TMS320F240 DSP. The single-unit Flash memory programmer includes an RS-232 serial port interface and a rugged zero-insertion-force (ZIF) socket with a minimum of 10,000 insertions. It is intended for small-volume applications and for laboratory prototyping or programming.

The Mountain-FlashPRO allows multi-device programming of eight units simultaneously, in any combination of ’F206 or ’F240 DSPs. With this hardware, engineers can produce programmed DSPs for production runs quickly via an intuitive 32-bit Windows graphical user interface. Through the combination of user-friendly, automation, and parallel programming functions, the Mountain FlashPRO system is an excellent tool for high-volume programming.
