Third-party support simplifies ’F240 developmentTwo companies, Spectrum Digital and Technosoft, have released products to help simplify the evaluation and development of TMS320F240 applications. The Spectrum Digital EVM320F243 Evaluation Module (EVM) is a stand-alone module designed to quickly develop, debug and prototype motor-control applications. Features include 64K words of program memory and 32K words of data memory. The program space also has 8K words of on-chip Flash ROM for embedded application code. An MP7680 DAC and UART are designed onboard for increased functionality. Software development can be done with the XDS510PP Portable Scan Path JTAG Emulator with a choice of flexible debuggers, also available from Spectrum Digital. The EVM320F243 is code compatible with TI’s fixed-point code-generation tools. The complete kit consists of the printed circuit board, demonstration program and manuals with schematics for US $795. Technosoft’s MCK240 Motion Control Kit aids in the execution, adaptation and implementation of control algorithms, giving easy access to the underlying DSP technology. An on-board three-phase inverter can be used to drive small AC, brushless and DC motors. The kit includes a high-dynamics escape brushless motor with high-resolution encoder, which can be driven in AC or DC brushless modes. A universal I/O interface allows connection to various external power amplifiers, such as Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) inverter bridges, for controlling larger motors. Built-in current feedback structures facilitate the development of a large set of control algorithms, including sensorless control. The MCK240 (Part number TMDS3PMCK240) is available from TI.
