± 15-kV ESD protection in SN65LBC184 and SN75LBC184

Product Features

  • ESD Protection on bus pins
    • ± 15 kV Human Body Model (HBM)
    • ± 8 kV IEC 1000-4-2, Contact Discharge
    • ± 15 kV IEC 1000-4-2, Air-gap Discharge
  • Transceiver with integrated transient voltage protection
  • Circuit damage protection of 400-W peak (typical)
  • Ranked among EDN's Hot 100 products of 1997
  • Characterized for operation:
    • SN65LBC184:
      –40°C to 85°C
    • SN75LBC184:
      0°C to 70°C

The SN65LBC184 and SN75LBC184 are differential data line transceivers that offer integrated transient voltage protection up to 400-W peak. This feature provides significant protection from large overvoltage transients on the bus pins which can be caused by secondary effects of a lightning strike or power system switching disturbances.

These previously released products have recently been tested to comply with the IEC 1000-4-2 requirements. These devices have an ESD protection on the bus pins of ± 15 kV using IEC 1000-4-2 Air-gap Discharge, ± 8 kV using IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge, and ± 15 kV using the Human Body Model (HBM). The SN65LBC184 and SN75LBC184 provide substantial benefits for improved reliability and enhanced system performance resulting in total system cost savings. Both devices are available in 8-pin DIP(P) and SOIC(D).
